The Gloria de Colombia

Yesterday the Colombian Navy tall ship named Gloria docked behind the Tampa Convention Center, as Colombian immigrants applauded. Aboard they had their own band, which played on after the ship docked.

This is a tall three-masted schooner that looks a lot like Old Ironsides, the USS Constitution that is on display at Boston Harbor. The Gloria has over twenty sails. It’s primary purpose is to train Colombian sailors.

The Gloria will be in Tampa until July third, when it will sail to Miami and then continue to other ports of call. Visitors can drop by anytime until then.
