First time here on a recent Sunday afternoon, right on University Drive in Downtown Gainesville. Parking lot a bit too small for this crowded day.. Guest 15-minute computers quite convenient for visitors.
Built on two levels, so have to climb a few steps to large main level. Big magazine area a welcome place to rest and relax in plush chairs. An ornate network of varnished woodwork throughout the ceiling and along walls is unique architecture. A pleasant place. Short walk from here to several restaurants and bus lines.
Landed here on a recent Saturday after losing my way. Totally packed, need a bigger parking lot. Seems everyone from Longboat Key and AnnaMaria Island shops here. Traffic jam along Cortez Road did not help. All aisles and cashiers busy so long line.
Assume things are more pleasant on weekdays. Directly on flight path to Sarasota-Bradenton Airport so can stop here on the way.
Recently I walked all along this promenade along the Manatee River that goes over a mile. There is a skate park, stone reclining chairs, children’s playground, fishing piers, a bandshell plus historic exhibits and paintings.
Money well spent here for everyone to enjoy. It ends at the downtown marina close to city hall and Old Main Street where several restaurants await after this long refreshing walk that goes under the US 41 bridge. Plenty of free parking and a hotel along the Riverwalk
